The program is committed to approaching global affairs through utilizing insights from a number of different disciplines, as well as to combining broad-based knowledge with a specific area focus. International studies prepares students to live, think, and work in a world that is changing rapidly and often with great unpredictability.
The major is particularly appropriate for those students interested in careers in government, business, education, the nonprofit sector, and certain areas of law. It also provides a solid background for graduate studies in several fields. Students may also combine the major or minor with other programs at the University.
For instance, some may combine international studies with political economy or economics and then pursue work in international business. Others may combine the major or minor with foreign language study within modern languages and cultures, or professional and technical writing, and pursue careers in govern¬ment service, translation, or business.
Some may pursue international studies along with an education degree and teach. Faculty advisors will work closely with each student to tailor the program to his or her learning objectives and career plans.
