Students in Southeastern's English Education program receive a balanced education in both English and education. The program features English courses in world, British and American literature, grammar and linguistics. Students also receive training in general methods for teaching as well as discipline-specific methods for teaching English content. Students have an opportunity to practice and apply these methods during field experiences in local schools. Students who complete the degree program will be certified to teach English/Language Arts in secondary schools (grades 6 through 12).
Our students learn about literature from ancient times to the present, creative writing, web design, linguistics and local dialects, the teaching of writing and literature, film, drama and performance studies, and much more.
