The BFA degree in Art with a concentration in Art Education leads to licensure forColorado K-12 Art Education. Students in this major will focus on a broad overview ofthe visual arts. The program includes coursework in art theory and art history, while inart practice students learn several studio art media that can be taught in a K-12setting. Art teaching methods are developed with coursework in Elementary andSecondary Art as an integral part of the degree plan. All students accumulate over 200hours of classroom experience before they begin student teaching. School districtsthroughout western Colorado provide opportunities to gain experience with childrenof all ages and backgrounds in a variety of school settings. The degree can lead toprofessional employment in art schools, both public and private.
