?Many courses have laboratory and/or field components, and seminar, tutorial or independent project modes of instruction are also utilized.

The program takes advantage of the University's 1,600-acre setting in the New Jersey Pine Barrens close to the Atlantic Ocean. It is an area rich with diverse terrestrial, estuarine and marine habitats. Nearby are the Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge and many other federal, state, county and private wildlife preserves. The laboratory complex includes a greenhouse, animal rooms, environmental growth chambers, computer apparatus for physiological studies, light microscopes of many descriptions, plant and animal tissue culture facilities, and modern biological instrumentation including centrifuges, thermocyclers, and instrumentation for automated DNA sequencing.

Stockton?s Biology (BIOL) Program offers courses and degrees that prepare students for a variety of careers in biological science, provide a background of skills and knowledge needed for further study in graduate schools, and promote enjoyment and appreciation for the organisms that populate our planet.?

The biology faculty members are dedicated to teaching our students the most up-to-date facts, perspectives, and methodologies in the field of biology with pedagogical approaches that will enhance the learning experience. In addition, our faculty members engage in scholarly research in which students can take part with independent studies. These unique, personalized independent studies often lead the way to interesting career paths or further graduate education. The research and teaching expertise of our faculty span the broad discipline of biology including ecological and evolutionary relationships, molecular and cellular studies, and physiological and behavioral studies of organisms. In addition, the Environmental Studies, Marine Science, Chemistry, Math, and Physics Programs offer additional faculty and opportunities for students to explore and expand on their interest in biology.
