These concentrations are: Merchandising, Interior Design, Child Development, Therapeutic Nutrition, Hospitality Management, Food Service Management, and Culinary Arts. The Department also offers a concentration in Family and Consumer Science leading to the Bachelor of Science and satisfies the qualification for the Alabama Class B Secondary Professional Certificate at the 6 ? 12 level. Minor programs in Connie D. McKinney Department of Human Sciences, Hospitality, and Design?include: Human Environmental Sciences, Culinary Arts, Foods and Nutrition, Food Management, Hospitality Management, Parent Education, Retail and Clothing, Space Planning and Design, and Therapeutic Nutrition Science, which may be applied for minor field requirements in programs offered in other departments of the University.
The programs of the of the department are designed to serve students who desire to prepare for advanced study in graduate school leading to teaching, research, and professional positions; or for positions for which preparations in human sciences, hospitality, and design are appropriate.
The Department has a unique environment that encourages interaction with faculty, staff, and other students. Opportunities for membership in pre-professional organizations encourage students to participate in department activities which include study tours, community and university service, and other project based activities. These pre-professional organizations provide opportunities for student leadership.
The Connie D. McKinney Department of Human Sciences, Hospitality, and Design Building is located at 205 S. Seminary St. in the heart of downtown Florence. Our second location is at the East Campus, a short distance the from main campus. We are proud of our facilities at both locations. Both have recently been renovated to give students the state-of-the-art and modern settings.
