These systems include: buildings, highways, airports, pipelines, bridges, dams, irrigation systems, drainage systems, water-supply and distribution systems, and wastewater collection and treatment works. Civil engineers are employed by government agencies, public utility companies, private consulting firms, construction companies, architectural firms, and universities.

The Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering offers accredited programs leading to BS degrees in Civil Engineering (BSCE). The program provides a strong background in the fundamentals of mathematics, science, engineering, humanities, social sciences and civil engineering. 

The objectives of the BSCE program is to prepare graduates who, within the first four to six years after graduation are, either:

  • Working as a professional or as an entrepreneur in an area closely related to civil engineering, or
  • Exhibit lifelong learning by pursuing or having completed a graduate or professional degree and/or demonstrated professional development
