About this course:

  • Working with university’s faculty advisor, they can tailor students program to meet their  own needs and interests, taking into account their particular goals and undergraduate preparation.
  • In the PhD program, students  will devote most of their first year and some of their second year to course work.
  • These courses are designed to strengthen and extend their knowledge of the theoretical foundations of physics and to introduce them to areas of current interest in the field.
  • During the summer following students first year, they will be encouraged to join one of the ongoing research programs in the department.
  • From their third year on, they will concentrate on carrying out their PhD thesis research with their faculty research advisor. Work culminates in your PhD thesis defense by about the fifth or sixth year.
