The program allows students to have an emphasis in vocal performance, instrumental performance, or piano performance. The music program?s courses are taught by faculty, not graduate assistants, which allow students to create a personal relationship with music faculty and helps them to succeed. Music majors also have the opportunity to get on-campus jobs within their department as music librarian, stage manager, theory tutor or office staff member.

Southern Utah University is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and offers SUU students a wide array of musical opportunities that can lead to a performance degree in music or a teaching degree in music. We also offer numerous performance electives for both music majors and non-majors, in such areas as Opera Theatre, Concert Choir, OPUS [Chamber Choir], Orchestra, Band, Jazz Band, and several small ensembles. Because the SUU music faculty has an exceptional combination of both teaching and performing expertise, our students have won state, regional, and national recognition for their efforts, both at SUU and after graduation and have gone on to teaching music and professional performance careers.
