Germany is the largest and wealthiest country in the European Union, and the importance of German in Europe continues to grow with the integration of Eastern European countries where German has always played an important role.

Learning Outcomes

German majors will have achieved advanced proficiency levels in the language and in German grammar and culture.

The Learning Environment

German classes are typically small in size, allowing for greater interaction, face-time and use of the target language between the instructor and students. Courses cover a variety of topics, and Independent Studies may be arranged to fill a student's needs.

About Our Facilities

The German program is housed in the Department of Linguistics in Baldy Hall and holds classes in centrally scheduled space throughout the campus. Although most instruction is in traditional format, it is often enhanced with a wide variety of media resources, including videos and internet.
