The faculty generously invest in an intergenerational and cross-cultural dialogue that is unique to New York. All are active artists, writers, and critics and bring both critical rigor and a respect for the achievement of craft employed in their own practices. In addition, a diverse roster of visiting artists, curators, critics, and arts professionals gives public lectures, engages in periodic semester reviews, and conducts individual studio visits with students. The studio experience, especially at the graduate level, is characterized by strong peer exchange and dialogue.
The Sculpture facilities at Pratt include a professionally equipped metals shop with foundry, wood shop, plastics/resins area, ceramics, and moldmaking studios. Sculpture students have access to courses and facilities in Printmaking, Jewelry-making, and in Drawing and Painting within Fine Arts. Students may take courses and gain access to facilities in other Departments at Pratt such as Digital Arts (advanced digital video and animation, digital tools including 3D modeling, printing, and scanning) and Photography (both traditional film processes and digital). Pratt?s Department of Fine Arts is also affiliated with Urban Glass, an independent, comprehensive glass studio in Brooklyn where students may enroll in credit-bearing courses each semester.
