• There are significant concentrations of strength in early America, African America, American South, Latin America, Europe, social and cultural history, history of capitalism, gender and sexuality, war and society, religions, transnational history, and the history of agriculture and the environment.
  • The history department offers work leading to the MA and PhD degrees. The MA program in history consists of 30 semester hours, including HIST 7900 (Theory and Practice of History) and two other 8000-level courses. Additional requirements are: two colloquia in the major field and one colloquium in the minor field, reading competence in one or more foreign languages, a thesis, and an oral examination.
