The athletic training program was developed in 1972 and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Ohio’s program promotes high practice standards by providing quality classroom and clinical education experiences. The program also promotes the development of the athletic training profession through research and publications. The program also encourages student attendance at professional meetings and involvement with state, district, and national athletic training organizations. Ohio University’s academic program uses the health care model for developing athletic trainingstudent competence. Professional coursework provides students with the ability to combine their knowledge and skills and apply them to professional practice. The athletic training major is a four-year program. The first academic year is pre-athletic training, followed by three years of professional preparation. Upon graduation, students are awarded a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training.
