AMU BArch Course Highlights

Bachelor of Architecture provided by Aligarh Muslim University is a five-year program comprising 10 semesters.
The course is approved by UGC and is offered in full-time mode.
The course can be pursued by both hostellers and day scholars.
The total seat intake for BArch is 24 including NRI/ Foreign National and Diploma Toppers.
The selection to BArch is based on the Admission Test and NATA scores.
Students must have scored more than 50% in 10+2 with PCM as subjects or in a Diploma in Engineering to be eligible for admission.
The total course fee charged by AMU for BArch course is INR 13,27,000.
AMU has been consistently ranked among top universities in India by various magazines/ranking bodies. AMU bagged 19th rank in NIRF 2023 Overall Rankings and 9th rank in NIRF 2023 rankings for Architecture.

AMU BArch Eligibility Criteria

Aspirants seeking admission to BArch program at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) should meet the following criteria as specified by the institute:

Candidates must have completed 10+2 or equivalent with a minimum of 50% aggregate from a recognized institute.
Candidates with a Diploma in Engineering are also eligible to apply.
Candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English in 10+2.

AMU BArch Admission Process

The selection to the BArch at AMU is made by taking into consideration NATA and AMUEE scores.
Candidates need to appear for AMUEEE 2024 and NATA qualify the same with marks more than the previous year’s cutoff.
The institute will prepare a merit list based on the candidate's marks in the entrance exams.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to appear for counseling process in the allotted slot along with the call letter.

AMU Engineering Entrance Exam

The test comprises two papers, i.e, Paper-I and Paper-II of equal weightage and the test duration is 3 hours.
Paper I consists of three sections with questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics of the 12th level. At the same time, Paper II is the Architecture Aptitude Test which consists of descriptive questions and a Test of Drawing.
Paper I consists of 150 marks in total and each question carries 1 mark. There will be no negative marking for the wrong answer.
Candidates need to qualify for both papers to be eligible. However, diploma holders must obtain a minimum of 40% aggregate in Paper-II to become eligible for selection.

AMU BArch How to Apply?

Aligarh Muslim University follows a common application process for all the courses offered. The application form can be filled out online. Below mentioned are the steps to follow for the same:

Visit the official website of AMU.
Register by providing all the details, such as Name, Address & course of choice.
Log in with the username and password generated at the time of registration.
Fill the form by filling in the correct personal and academic details.
Upload photograph and signature.
After filling the Admission Form, candidates are required to pay the application fee of INR 800 without late fee (INR 1,100 with late fee) by Credit/ Debit card or through Net-Banking.
Submit the application form.

AMU BArch Programme Details - Curriculum, Syllabus

Aligarh Muslim University provides BArch course for a minimum duration of 5 years intending to teach students the essential management skills required today for meeting the challenges of the increasing demand in the construction industry and other commercial industries. The course can be achieved by any candidate who fulfills the eligibility criteria set by the university.

The BArch Syllabus is structured in such a way that students become proficient in the foundation courses, and enhance their skills with the help of electives and practical training in the studio.
The course follows a CBCS pattern and credits are assigned to each subject.
The course inculcates industrial training, special study, departmental electives, and a thesis.

Program Structure

Attendance: Candidates are required to maintain a minimum attendance of 70% in both theory and practical classes separately. Students whose attendance falls below 70% may not be allowed to appear for end term examinations.

Credits: BArch is a credit based course. The total credits assigned to the course are 240. Both 1st and 2nd semesters are assigned 27.5 credits separately whereas 3rd-6th semesters are assigned 26 credits separately. 7th and 8th semesters carry 25 credits each while the 9th semester carries 23 credits alone. A total of 8 credits are assigned to the final semester. The category wise credit distribution is as follows:

Ques: What is the scope of BArch from Aligarh Muslim University?

Ques: Does Aligarh Muslim University provide any hostel facility to the BArch students?

Ans. Yes, the students at Aligarh Muslim University are provided the hostel facility on a first-come-first-serve basis. There are 19 Halls of Residence and one Non-Resident Students Centre (NRSC), which are further divided into 13 Halls of Residence for boys and 6 for Girls.

Ques: Can the BArch application form be edited after submission at AMU?

Ans. For applicants who have made mistakes in the application form, the university opens a correction window for a limited period in which candidates can ‘Log in’ to rectify any mistake if committed. Applicants can only edit details like name, father’s name, mother’s name, DOB and gender.

Ques: Can I get admission in BArch course at AMU by clearing the JEE Mains?

Ans. If you wish to pursue BTech/BArch in AMU you will have to appear for the AMUEEE examination conducted by the University across select cities. AMU does not consider the JEE Mains score for taking admissions.

A few years back, a friend of mine was in a position to choose between lower-ranked NITs and AMU. He chose the latter and based on his experience, he swears by that decision. He later went on to do this postgraduate from NIT Warangal. Here is his take on AMU and NITs. ZHCET or AMU is far better than 20 out of 33 NIT’s in India in every domain ranging from placements, internships to faculty, academics, etc. but is behind the top 11 NIT’s of India. Comparing AMU with NITs is quite a large scale. If we compare AMU with one of the top NITs, i.e, NIT Warangal, the infrastructure, library, academics, faculty all are the same but when it comes to placements, NIT Warangal has way better placements. However, not all NITs have a better placement record than AMU. The bottom-most NIT’s according to placements and academics are as follows. NIT Sikkim < NIT Mizoram < NIT Manipur < NIT Arunachal Pradesh < NIT Nagaland < NIT Meghalaya < NIT Andhra Pradesh < NIT Puducherry < NIT Uttarakhand < NIT Goa < NIT Delhi Where NIT Meghalaya and NIT Andhra Pradesh(NIT Tadepalligudem) lack in campus also.

Which is better, IIEST Shibpur IT or AMU CS?

My friend studied at IIEST Shibpur but it was a long time ago. The quality of pedagogy back then was good, however now one can't say much of it. Also personally, CS does not have the best faculty in AMU. If you wish to compare the state of teaching in the institutions, just log in to the official website and go through the qualifications of the faculty members. Check both the academic achievements of the faculty in general, as well as that of the departments. If you live near Shibpur then it'll be easier to commute, however, if you live far away then you can choose AMU. You must note that IIEST Shibpur's IT department might have to shut down and you may regret your decision during placements.

As per the AMU admission trends of the last few years, around 300-350 ranks in the Chance memo list get cleared. You may wait until the 3rd chance memo list. But there’s no way to know whether you will get in or not. It entirely depends on the no of vacant seats.

Yes, Aligarh Muslim University is way better than private universities such as VIT, SRM, Manipal, and Thapar for B.Tech. AMU is a central university and is widely recognized. Many times students prefer AMU prefer NITs. It has international-level infrastructure and a great faculty base. Many professors from CS and Electronics branches are past employees of top MNCs like Microsoft, CISCO, etc. The placements are pretty good for B.Tech. AMU B.Tech placements 2021 had an average CTC of INR 5.62 LPA. The industrial exposure is less compared to the other institutes. But as AMU is located in the vicinity of NCR, the location advantage makes up for it.

The concept of ragging is severely prohibited in AMU. It would be best if you made friends by using your brain. It will take time, but you should quickly adapt as fast as possible. You should make friends who know how the university works. It would be best if you explored different types of clubs for which the university is famous. The clubs are filled with remarkable personalities, which will ease your mind. Attach yourself with a student organization that helps you to enhance your skills. For the research perspectives in any specialized subjects of mechanical engineering, AMU is quite good and for exposure or entrepreneurship, JMI is the better option having 10th NIRF rank among Indian colleges. No, there is no special reservation for Dalits in Aligarh Muslim University. In fact, there is no reservation for any caste or religion at AMU. However, you need to mention your religion in the application form. After the entrance, the selection list is prepared purely based on merit. Although the university does have an internal quota AMU. If you want to take admission in an MTech course at AMU, your qualifying degree is BTech or BE. You can take advantage of the internal student quota, only if you have completed your undergraduate engineering degree from AMU. Some of the other quotas at AMU are as follows. Due to the proximity to Delhi NCR, it's easier to get placement opportunities, internships, and projects. AMU placements have been great for B.Tech. The Computer Science Department is one of the oldest and growing departments at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and came into existence in 1971. The overall infrastructure of this department is quite good and has smart classrooms, conference rooms, seminar libraries with many specialized books in Computer Science. It has central computing labs for both undergraduate and postgraduate students and a separate lab for the research scholars. The department offers various courses like B.Sc(Hons), MCA, PGDM, PGDCP, MCA, P.hD. and the syllabus of these courses is designed keeping in mind the requirement of time and also the demand of the industry. 80% of students get placed through placement drives each year. Both the colleges have their own reputation. My father is an alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad while one of my brothers is pursuing Law from Aligarh Muslim University. Being a part of two prestigious colleges like IIM Ahmedabad and AMU, when they sit together and discuss something be it Law, ongoing cases, or any other matter, they both have a very different perspective. My father gives proficient suggestions in legal fields as well. He being an IIMian, believes in talking systematically. He is very patient in carving out solutions to every problem. He used to tell me the time of his MBA at IIM Ahmedabad. During his days of MBA, people were not very crazy about pursuing an MBA. But in his opinion doing MBA is the best opportunity to be a part of an institute like IIM Ahmedabad. Comparison: (Winning Institution - IIM Ahmedabad) Every college which is said to be one of the most reputed colleges may not provide the best in all the courses. In the same way, pursuing MBA from Aligarh Muslim University cannot be a good decision. AMU is best for many other courses but it’s a “Big No” for MBA. If you are capable enough, then you must prepare to crack CAT and be a part of IIM Ahmedabad. MBA from IIM – A is a way better choice. The college has been producing better placement results for many years. They develop your management skills and prospers to bring out the best management skills in yourself.
