This is a very subjective question.

  • Developers in IT companies such as Infosys and TCS can expect a salary in the range of INR 4 – 6 LPA with this work experience.
  • Developers in small product companies can expect a salary of INR 5 – 8 LPA.
  • Developers in large product companies with a study background from any tier-1 or tier-2 college can expect a salary of around INR 9 – 12 LPA.

Generally, IITs are considered Tier-1 colleges, NITs are considered Tier-2 colleges, and all other private engineering colleges are considered tier-3 colleges. Also, college ranks do not really matter during placements or later in your work life. It is only valuable till your college life.

With the economy getting stagnant due to the pandemic-related slowdowns, opportunities are very limited and the existing roles also have a very limited scope of any major salary hike. So make your expectations accordingly.

My friend is a mechanical engineer graduate from Karunya University. According to him, the placement stats of Karunya University is quite good especially for departments like CSE and IT. Other than these two branches, other branches barely get core companies in the placements.

According to the average package offered at Karunya University generally ranges from 3.25 LPA to 3.5 LPA. The highest CTC offered is 25 LPA. Some of the major recruiters at the institute are Infosys, Byju’s, Amazon, Accenture, etc.

This should give you an idea about the placement scenario at the institute.

In the 1st year of college, the syllabus is the same for All the departments and branches.

The first two consecutive semesters cover the same subjects for all the branches that include basic School subjects, basic mechanical, Basic EEE, and C programming as an additional.

There’s not much difference until you reach 3 semesters where you actually start learning your subject.

A few of my friends have studied here and their experiences have been moderate. Karunya University has improved over the years but you cannot expect too much from here.

Following are some of the pros and cons of the university:

Pros –

  • Good infrastructure with well-equipped facilities including hostels
  • Climate is good throughout the year.
  • Ragging is comparatively low.
  • If you are a person who accumulates arrears this is the place for you. University will help you out, a supplementary examination is held in the middle of a semester just to help students clear their arrears.
  • WiFi connection is available.
  • You can choose faculties as per your wish

Cons –

  • There is a morning assembly every day. This includes starting prayer, ending prayer and in between someone will pray for you from the stage. You should maintain 80% of attendance for Assembly.
  • Management is not efficiently managed
  • The grading system is not fair. There will be four to five faculties for the same subject.

If you are opting for Karunya University, then go only for CSE as only it is good. Other departments like ECE and EE do not have proper faculty members or infrastructure. Do not waste your time in such departments.

There are several reasons for this, including the fact that Karunya generally advertises only in the southern regions of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh. As a result, there will be more students from here. Most North Indian students who come here learn about Karunya through alumni. Students are not given many opportunities to showcase their talents, such as singing and dancing. Doing dance numbers to Bollywood/Hollywood songs, for example. There is one thing to point out even though Karunya believes in a value-based education system yet prayers are given more weight than studies.

In comparison to other universities, there is little freedom. Most people, especially outsiders mistake this location for a Christian conversion site, which is completely false. The majority of KU alumni are dissatisfied with the university. People only ask them if they should go to Karunya at the end of the day.

Despite this, Karunya is an excellent place to study. All Karunyans need is a little more exposure to the outside world.

I have a few friends who graduated from Karunya University. According to them, it is a decent option for pursuing a course in CSE.

  • Generally for CSE, you need to learn almost everything by self-study. Karunya offers good academics but you will need to put in the effort to do well.
  • There are many professors who take extra classes for app development, web development, etc.
  • A number of clubs are available that you can join for programming, mobile app, open-source software, networking, etc.
  • Labs are well-equipped. However, for CSE, you won’t need much besides your laptop.
  • Karunya regularly conducts Project Expo, Technical Fest, Workshop, etc.
  • CSE has the best placement record at the university. More than 70% of students from CSE get placed.
  • The highest CTC offered at the institute in the recent placement drive was 25 LPA.

So, overall, Karunya University is a good option for pursuing CSE.

As you start a new chapter of your life, the question does come to mind regarding what to pack for your new hostel room here are a few tips for you. Below I’ve listed some essential items that you must pack with you.

  • Clothes: You should ideally carry both formals and informal so that you are ready for all occasions.
  • Bedding: Karunya hostel provides you a bed but you’ll have to carry your mattress, pillow, bedsheet, blanket/quilt, and pillow covers. If you find carrying so much luggage cumbersome, you could think of buying these items locally.
  • Toiletries: Your essential toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, oil, etc must be packed. You must get a bucket and mug too!
  • Medicine Kit: Keep essential medicines such as those for headaches, cough, cold, fever, stomach upset, cuts and bruises, and band-aid ready at hand.
  • Documents: Originals and photocopies of mark sheets, admit cards, certificates, acceptance and offer letters, domicile certificate, multiple copies of photographs (preferably in formals), and Aadhar card.
  • Money: Remember to carry ready cash with you, but stash it in different bags and pockets to minimize the loss in case of theft. Don’t forget to bring an ATM Card.
  • Laptop and Data card: Cell phone and laptop The college provides Internet access with WiFi in hostels. However, it makes sense, therefore, to invest in a dongle or WiFi of your own.
  • Stationery: It is always a good idea to have a stationery kit containing a scientific calculator and basic stuff ready at hand.
  • General Items: This would be depending on your preferences. For example, you may need to keep mosquito repellent, sunglasses, reading lamps, locks and keys, umbrellas, keyrings, flashlights, and other such items.

All the best!

One of my friends studied at Karunya University. According to him, all colleges have pros and cons and Karunya University was nothing different. Here are some things he mentioned about the college which might give you a clear idea.

Pros of Karunya University include:

  • It has a decent infrastructure
  • It has around 80% placement rate
  • Great atmosphere and environment as the campus is surrounded by mountains. The climate tends to be good and the place has scenic beauty.
  • The hostels are better than the other colleges and they provide decent quality food.
  • Few departments of Karunya University have good academic plans and syllabus.
  • Good exposure to a diverse culture with international and interstate students.
  • All the restrictions imposed will be only for the first year.
  • Only for the B.Tech course students, the hostel services are compulsory. Rest of the students are allowed to stay outside the campus.

Cons or Karunya University includes:

  • It has a high fee structure
  • Compulsory attendance is required for the morning assembly.
  • The students who somehow failed to pay the fees are not allowed to sit in the exams.
  • The placements of some departments are not so great for which the placement rate is 80% and not 100%.
  • The faculty tends to deduct internal marks over unreasonable issues.

You can opt for Karunya University if you are interested. It has a decent infrastructure and is a residential college with high standards. Otherwise, you can also opt for any other college affiliated with Anna University.

Karunya University is deemed to be a university registered under the UGC rules and regulations. It is doubtful whether a degree from the university is officially accepted.

Rather than asking whether the certificate is valued or not you should be asking about the credibility and how much importance does the certificate holds?

It does not hold much credibility and importance. It is a regular private university and obviously not comparable to any of the IITs or NITs. The recruiters consider it as an average college.

I have heard from many that the students of Karunya University lack technical skills in comparison to other colleges of Coimbatore in fact, the whole of Tamil Nadu.

Overall Karunya University is neither a much-valued college nor a bad one.
