Course Description

HPU PhD admission 2022-23 through the entrance test is ongoing. Applications for the same closed on March 31, 2023. HPU will soon announce the entrance test date for PhD admissions. Candidates who have applied for the program can download their admit cards through the official website.

PhD at HPU is offered through 22 departments. The number of seats may vary and is reserved according to the reservation criteria of the Government of India. The minimum eligibility for a Ph.D. is having a Masters or professional degree.

HPU Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria

Candidates seeking admission to the PhD programme should have completed their Master's or Professional Degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or it's equivalent 'B' grade on UGC 7-points scale or equivalent grading system followed.
A relaxation of 5% marks is provided to Reserved categories.
A degree from a foreign institution approved and accredited by a statutory body.
University teachers/colleges teachers teaching to Himachal Pradesh University or disabled students can apply for direct admission against the supernumerary seat each in the department.
Candidates must have qualified UGC NET(JRF)/UGC-CSIR(JRF) /RAJIV GANDHI FELLOWSHIP/MAULANA AZAD FELLOWSHIP/AWARDEES OF TEACHER FELLOWSHIP /SPONSORED BY ICSSR/DBT-JRF, ICMR or any other coming under Government of India.

HPU Ph.D. Admission Process

Admissions to the Ph.D. programs are provided based on the marks obtained by the students in the Entrance Exam conducted by the university. However, if candidates have the following test score then they are exempted from the Entrance test:

20% of the marks in UGC-NET/ GATE
15% of the marks in SLET
10% of the marks in M.Phil/ M.Tech/ LLM

HPU PhD Application Process

Visit the official website of HPU.
Click on UG/PG/PhD to get the list of courses.
Click on the 'PhD' option.
Read out all the instructions provided for filling the form.
Accept terms and conditions.
Fill all the personal information mentioned in the application form.
A Unique Registration number and password will be sent to your registered mobile number and email address.
Login again with your credentials provided and complete the application form.
Fill all the educational details and upload documents.

Applicant's recent formal passport size photograph.
Scanned Copy of applicant's Signature.
Scanned copy of applicant's Father's/Mother's signature.
Masters Degree Certificate or equivalent and other relevant documents.

HPU Ph.D. Scholarships

HPU has been awarded DAAD, a German Academic Exchange Scholarship under the Sandwich Programme. The state government is running many scholarships like Dr BR Ambedkar Medhavi Chattarvriti Yojana, IRDP Scholarship, and many more. Students can acclaim these scholarships by satisfying the eligibility criteria.

HPU Ph.D. Reservation Policy

HPU gives 5% relaxation to students belonging to SC/ST or PWD category in the terms of 55% in Masters degree and equivalent grade, seats available as per the latest norms and guidelines followed by Government of India.

Ques. Can payment for the application fees be made in the form of a demand draft?

Ans. No, payment cannot be made in the form of demand draft. It can be made only through online mode via payment gateway available on the official website.

Ques. How can a candidate know about the specializations given in the particular department?

Ans. Candidates can know about the specializations offered in the particular course via department only. On the website, information is only provided for one or two courses.

Ques. Do reserved categories get any reservation in the matter of seat availability?

Ans. Yes, candidates can get reservations in the matter of availability of seats and percentage of marks required for taking admission in the desired course of the PhD programme. Candidates can avail this by showing the requisite caste certificate needed to be produced.

Ques. Will there be no entrance examination for the admission procedure?

Ans. From this session onwards, University has started direct admission based on marks scored in the Master's Degree or equivalent. The entrance exam will be conducted if any seats are left over.

Shimla is one of the best places in India. HPU Shimla is situated in the beautiful hills of Shimla. A senior of mine who attended HPU, says that life at HPU Shimla is good. Every facility is given to the students at HPU Shimla. HPU Shimla has excellent faculty in every department and also most of them have received a Ph.D. degree in their respective fields. The seniors here are also helpful and supportive. HPU Shimla has a lovely hostel as well overlooking the hills and the valleys. HPU Shimla conducts several cultural festivities and events. It has got a large auditorium where the events and functions are held. Life at HPU Shimla will be pretty amazing. It is better to stay away from politics and just enjoy college life and the academics in the university.

I have a few friends from HPU Shimla and according to them, there is no specific syllabus for Zoology entrance. The question of the last few years can be helpful in analyzing the paper pattern. There is no specific syllabus mentioned but the courses generally comprise the topics from the UG degree. So it is definitely recommended to study the UG books and it would be really helpful if you could get previous papers. There are some books that can be useful such as Arihant’s entrance test book for MSc.

It entirely depends on which course you are opting for. Generally, in comparison, GNDU Amritsar will have the upper hand over HPU UIIT Shimla on the basis of the institute level and the infrastructure. GNDU Amritsar has very good infrastructure and facilities. The environment of the institute is very good and well for studies. The seniors present there are helpful too. GNDU Amritsar has also got a huge library which the students can access anytime. The library is fully air-conditioned along with the separate reading rooms. The institute is also famous for its huge achievements in the field of sports. GNDU offers decent placement opportunities. In 2021, the highest CTC offered was 13 LPA.

Ans

One of my friends graduated from Kurukshetra University and is now doing her PG from HPU campus. Here are some snippets of her experience. The quality of education at the institute is not good. It has been continuing with the same curriculum for ages. The faculty of the university do not seem to have any intentions of updating with the world while they are very active in the politics of the college. Infrastructure wise nothing has changed for many years. The library facility is not good. The location is just great and the transportation as well. The university management has not been able to fully utilize the potential of the location. The fees are very meager there (reason for the very poor students coming there of different quotas and categories who cannot afford more). There are no facilities for sports. No proper grounds or coaches. The University Institute of Engineering and Technology on the campus has a good name though.

The salary package offered ranged from INR 2.5 to 12 LPA. Wipro and Infosys are the top recruiting companies of the college. Facilities: There are free Wi-Fi facilities with fast connection speed. All the labs are well-equipped, and classrooms are well-furnished along with smart classes. The library is also well-maintained and contains all the necessary materials related to other courses also. You should choose Chandigarh University for an M.Sc in Chemistry. The department has state-of-the-art laboratories to perform practicals for Physical, Organic, and Inorganic Chemistry. CU used teaching aids such as PPTs, Models, Animated Videos, Charts, etc. Many activities are organized throughout the academic year to encourage learning outside the classroom. The faculty pool for Chemistry is excellent. CU encourages students to publish research papers during their last semester. In terms of academics, learning resources, and facilities, CU will be better than HPU.
