HPU M.Sc Admission 2023 is going to begin soon. Admission to its HPU M.Sc courses is based on the candidates’ performance in the HPU NEST examination. The university offers a two-year full-time M.Sc. course with 10 specializations. Aspirants seeking admission must have to score a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in their graduation from a relevant stream. HPU has also a dedicated Training & Placement cell which helps the students to get placed in their desired companies. HPU M.Sc. Eligibility Criteria

Aspirants seeking admission to 2 year Full-time M.Sc Program should have passed a Bachelor Degree under 10+2+3 pattern of education, either in Physical, Biological, Agricultural, Veterinary and Fisheries Sciences, Pharmacy, Engineering/Technology.
Or, 4 years B.S. (Physician Assistant Course) or Medicine (M.B.B.S.) or B.D.S. from any Institute/ University recognized by the Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla/ University Grant Commission, New Delhi with at least 55% marks for general and other categories and 50% for SC/ ST category candidates.

HPU M.Sc Admission Guidelines

Candidates seeking admission into the M.Sc program must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Maths as main subjects during 12th. In addition, students must have secured a minimum of 60% marks (general category) in B.Sc. along with a valid score in HPU NEST. HPU NEST is an aptitude test consisting of quantitative, logical reasoning, data interpretation as well as general knowledge which are of multiple-choice type questions.

Also, Foreign students residing in India and having valid student visas can seek admission in their respective programs.

How to Apply?

To apply online for HPU MSc admissions, one must follow the below mentioned steps:

Visit the university website.
Scroll the Page and click on the “Online Application” option.
Click on the “Admission” option.
Choose the program and click on the program name.
Before clicking on the program please click on the instructions for filling an online application form, a pdf file will be open, kindly read it carefully.
Click on the program name for which you are willing to apply.
Kindly check the terms and conditions. After that, you will be redirected to the personal information page.
Please fill in the personal information first.
After filling in the personal information click on the Save button at the last of the page.
The system will generate the Unique Registration number and the password will be sent to the registered email and mobile number. Note it down.
Now click on the “Move to next step” button.
Fill in your education details and attach all the necessary documents.
Now click on Submit. You will be directed to the fee payment page.
Pay the required application fee.
Submit the application form.
Take the printout of the application form and keep it for future reference.

HPU M.Sc Course details

The M.Sc program consists of 4 semesters each of six (6) months followed by examinations both written and practical, conducted at the end of each semester.

Written examinations are conducted on the subjects taught in each semester and consist of both short questions and descriptive ones.
Practical examinations are conducted in the respective laboratories. Students must secure a minimum of 40% marks in each subject to clear individual semester examinations.
Both written and practical examinations are of total three hours duration. Final semesters are mostly project-based. Those marks are awarded based on the projects designed.
The syllabus of each specialization of MSc. courses will have unique and diversified subjects curated to train and make the students expertise in their fields.

HPU M.Sc Scholarship

Himachal Pradesh University provides a number of scholarships to the students. These are provided by both the State Government and Central Government. Below mentioned scholarships are provided by the University:

Students Aid Fund: This scholarship is distributed to the poor students belonging to IRDP/BPL/Low-Income families enabling such students to continue their higher education at the university level.
Cultural Activists Scholarships: It is provided to the 10 students who are the top performer in academic and cultural activities in any of the departments of the University.
Sports Scholarship: This Scholarship is awarded to the 16 students for the outstanding sportsmen/women of all Departments.

How is the student life in HPU Shimla?

Shimla is one of the best places in India. HPU Shimla is situated in the beautiful hills of Shimla. A senior of mine who attended HPU, says that life at HPU Shimla is good. Every facility is given to the students at HPU Shimla.

HPU Shimla has excellent faculty in every department and also most of them have received a Ph.D. degree in their respective fields.
The seniors here are also helpful and supportive.
HPU Shimla has a lovely hostel as well overlooking the hills and the valleys.
HPU Shimla conducts several cultural festivities and events. It has got a large auditorium where the events and functions are held.

Life at HPU Shimla will be pretty amazing. It is better to stay away from politics and just enjoy college life and the academics in the university.

What is the syllabus for the entrance for an M.Sc in zoology at HPU Shimla?

I have a few friends from HPU Shimla and according to them, there is no specific syllabus for Zoology entrance. The question of the last few years can be helpful in analyzing the paper pattern. There is no specific syllabus mentioned but the courses generally comprise the topics from the UG degree. So it is definitely recommended to study the UG books and it would be really helpful if you could get previous papers.

There are some books that can be useful such as Arihant’s entrance test book for MSc.

Which one is the best GNDU Amritsar or HPU UIIT Shimla?

It entirely depends on which course you are opting for. Generally, in comparison, GNDU Amritsar will have the upper hand over HPU UIIT Shimla on the basis of the institute level and the infrastructure.

GNDU Amritsar has very good infrastructure and facilities. The environment of the institute is very good and well for studies. The seniors present there are helpful too. GNDU Amritsar has also got a huge library which the students can access anytime. The library is fully air-conditioned along with the separate reading rooms. The institute is also famous for its huge achievements in the field of sports.

GNDU offers decent placement opportunities. In 2021, the highest CTC offered was 13 LPA.

One of my friends graduated from Kurukshetra University and is now doing her PG from HPU campus. Here are some snippets of her experience.

The quality of education at the institute is not good. It has been continuing with the same curriculum for ages.
The faculty of the university do not seem to have any intentions of updating with the world while they are very active in the politics of the college.
Infrastructure wise nothing has changed for many years. The library facility is not good.
The location is just great and the transportation as well. The university management has not been able to fully utilize the potential of the location.
The fees are very meager there (reason for the very poor students coming there of different quotas and categories who cannot afford more).
There are no facilities for sports. No proper grounds or coaches.

The University Institute of Engineering and Technology on the campus has a good name though.

Which one is best for an MCA HPU Shimla or Chandigarh University?

The college is overall good and even better for the MBA course. Here are some facts and stats for your reference that will help you make a decision.

Placements:

Almost 50% of the students were placed internally, and 20 to 30% of the students got outside campus placements.
Approximately 80% of placements were placed in college. The salary package offered ranged from INR 2.5 to 12 LPA.
Wipro and Infosys are the top recruiting companies of the college.

Facilities:

There are free Wi-Fi facilities with fast connection speed.
All the labs are well-equipped, and classrooms are well-furnished along with smart classes.
The library is also well-maintained and contains all the necessary materials related to other courses also.
Medical facilities are good. A regular dispensary on the university campus is available.
The food served in the mess is also good at affordable prices.
All the outdoor and indoor sports are available in the college.

So, HPU Shimla is definitely a great choice to pursue an MBA degree.

You should choose Chandigarh University for an M.Sc in Chemistry.

The department has state-of-the-art laboratories to perform practicals for Physical, Organic, and Inorganic Chemistry.
CU used teaching aids such as PPTs, Models, Animated Videos, Charts, etc.
Many activities are organized throughout the academic year to encourage learning outside the classroom.
The faculty pool for Chemistry is excellent.
CU encourages students to publish research papers during their last semester.

In terms of academics, learning resources, and facilities, CU will be better than HPU.
