Previously, you needed to multiply your CGPA by 10 and subtract 5 from the result to get your percentage according to the norms of Gauhati University. Let’s say you got a CGPA of 8.5. Then your percentage will be 8.5*10=85-5=80%.

Recently, the university has changed the calculation procedure. As per the updated process, the extra 5 is not subtracted while calculating the percentage.

At Gauhati University, you can appear for your back papers in alternate semesters. So, you can appear for your 1st year back papers in your 3rd and 5th semesters and not in your 2nd and 4th semesters.

You can take your back paper as many times as you want. However, you need to clear all your back papers within 6 years of your admission. Also, you can’t appear in your 6th-semester examination, until you have cleared all the papers for your 1st and 2nd semesters including all your back papers.

According to the reviews online, the difference is that Tezpur University (TU) and Gauhati University (GU) is that the former is a central university while the latter is a state university.

There are many other differences between the two other than this.

  • GU is a teaching cum affiliating university, with more than 300 colleges and institutes under its affiliation. On the other hand, TU does not have any colleges affiliated to it.
  • TU aims to offer employment oriented courses.
  • These are non-traditional subjects like MBBT, Environmental Science, Food Engineering and Technology, Cultural Studies, Social Work, Sociology, English and Foreign Languages with very few traditional subjects.
  • GU offers most of the traditional subjects in Science, Art, Commerce and only a few professional and non-traditional courses.
  • TU is a relatively newer university. GU is the oldest university in North East India.
  • Considering examinations and evaluation, TU has a relative grading system in a 10 point scale while GU has an absolute marking system.

Therefore TU and GU are very much different from each other when it comes to academics, teachings, curriculum, etc. So choose the one that suits your requirements, as it will shape your career ahead.

The main difference between Tezpur University and Gauhati University is that the former is a central university while the latter is a state university. So, TU has a residential campus, central funds, and better infrastructure compared to Gauhati University.

In terms of quality of education, there is no such difference between the two universities. GU being the older university has better experiences. However, TU has improved a lot over the years. Both universities are well recognized in India.
