The course aims to:

  • Explore the underlying theories of the fascinating science of genetics. It will provide practical experience of the major analytical techniques used in genetics and molecular biology, including gene cloning and expression, DNA sequence analysis and bioinformatics.
  • Produce high quality graduates with the appropriate subject-specific knowledge and transferable skills for a wide range of careers in the research, industrial, health, educational and academic sectors
  • Enable students to develop their skills in scientific and critical thinking and to study independently.
  • Enable students to acquire technical skills in the workplace and integrate the knowledge gained from the theoretical aspects of the course into the professional work environment. In the research project and the sandwich placement, they will have the opportunity to work with our leading scientists on exciting and important work, for example in developing new approaches to cancer treatments, antimicrobial agents and DNA fingerprinting.
