At the University of Reading studying the BScÊComputer Science with Industrial YearÊis about every aspect of computing in our daily lives.
The difference between this course and BSc Computer Science is that it includes a one-year paid-work placement in industry between the second and final year.
You will study computer graphics, web technology, e-commerce systems, mobile computing, big data analytics and artificial intelligence. You will also cover complex computing systems, computer vision and computer security.
You will get to grips with several programming languages including C++, C# and Java. These are essential skills for computer scientists and will prove to be valuable for your future.
This degree will help you to develop the technical and transferable skills you will need for a rewarding career in computing.
Outside the curriculum, we also offer free online courses in Android development for apps and games. These have proven to be hugely popular, and demonstrate some of the ways you can apply your programming knowledge in the future.
Our dedicated placement team will help you to secure year-long paid employment during your degree. We have built up relationships major companies over many years, many of which have their UK or European headquarters in the local area.

We hold a school careers and placements fair every year. Every student also completes an assessment week in which you will go through the selection methods that companies use. You will also receive CV help in one-to-one sessions.
