Objectives
The uniqueness of the City BA English (Hons) lies in its strong focus on three core strands: literature, professional writing, and creative writing.
As well as studying historical and contemporary literature in its many forms, you will explore how the knowledge and skills you gain can be applied to texts of all kinds, including your own creative writing (fiction and non-fiction). Throughout, you will experience literary forms as alive and evolving, and especially so in the digital environment. You will be encouraged to explore interdisciplinary knowledge and skills that are vital to success in the global cultural economy.
This course will encourage you to: read widely, including literature related to and written about London; to analyse and produce narratives in various forms, including in different media; and to experience different forms of creative writing in performance.
This programme builds on our significant international reputation in creative writing, journalism, and publishing. It equips you with an informed and critical understanding of the many forms of literary and professional English, which you may then apply in both creative and professional contexts.
