This Master's degree in Geographic Information Science (GISc) at Birkbeck, University of London covers the philosophical, scientific, social, policy, environmental and technological issues associated with the use of geographic information in an international context, building on the Department of Geographys experience in teaching GISc at postgraduate level for over 20 years.

It will introduce students to the principles and applications of GISc at an advanced level through the development of scientific knowledge, technical expertise and practical experience. Students will develop the relevant theoretical background knowledge and a conceptual understanding of GISc, as well as an appreciation of the social and political context of geographical data and the implications of its use. The emphasis throughout this course is on enabling students to develop new skills that have real-world applications for their work and career.
