As well as gaining competence in a language you will acquire advanced knowledge of a range of cultural topics, while also focusing on the nature of politics at the global level: international relations, political economy, and war and security studies. With the Language and Global Politics (French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish) programme at Birkbeck, University of London you will gain the skills necessary for political, sociological, historical and economic analysis in a learning environment that is supportive, radical and exciting.

You will also have the opportunity to study a number of cross-cultural modules which will allow you to explore specific themes across a variety of language-speaking areas.

Career

Graduates can pursue careers in national and international government, pressure groups, research or education. This degree may also be useful in becoming a journalist, civil service fast-streamer, governmental social research officer, diplomatic services operational officer or charity officer.
