This BSc Mathematics with Finance degree course offered at the University of Leeds covers mathematics and business finance, developing a broad base of mathematical and financial skills. The course is taught jointly by the School of Mathematics and Leeds University Business School to offer you the best of both worlds.
Two thirds of the time is spent on maths, including modules specialising in financial mathematics which cover mathematical modelling of financial and insurance markets.. During the remaining one third of your time, you will be taught by Leeds University Business School in the areas of business finance, accounting and economics.
Overall the course will provide you with an integrated programme of finance, economics and accounting combined with mathematics, specifically tailored to the financial services.
Each year you take 80 credits in mathematics, including financial mathematics, and 40 credits in modules taught by the Leeds University Business School.
In the first year of the course you study key topics in mathematics, finance, economics and accounting including probability, statistics, and mathematics of financial and insurance markets. In the second year there are core modules in financial mathematics, statistics and business finance and a wide range of optional modules in mathematics, statistics, finance, accounting, and economics. In the final year, about one third of your time is spent on core modules in banking and finance, data analysis and stochastic financial modelling. In the remaining time you have freedom of choice to pursue particular interests through a wide range of optional modules devoted to mathematics, finance, business studies and economics.
