The programme begins with a compulsory module on Kant's Critique of Pure Reason. You will then choose five modules from an extensive list that covers some of the foundational texts and thinkers of the modern European tradition (Kant, Hegel, Marx, Nietzsche, Heidegger) and 20th- and 21st-century philosophy and critical theory, including psychoanalysis.

Throughout the degree, you'll also attend content-based philosophical research methods seminars. You'll begin preparing your dissertation (25,000 - 30,000 words) in Year 2. Assessment of the dissertation includes a viva voce examination. In addition, you will organise and run reading groups around your own interests and on topics related to your dissertation.
