In Year 1 you begin with a panoramic view of a wide range of countries and time periods, including world history, twentieth-century Britain, sex, society and identity, and early modern (1500-1800) Europe. You will be trained to analyse diverse historical sources, from film through food to Cabinet minutes. You will be supported from day one through weekly personal tutor classes in small, friendly groups.

In Year 2 you'll receive advanced historical training through a wide choice of specialist topics. Students take core modules in Victorian archival and digital history and 20th century world history. You can choose from option modules including modern Germany, the British Empire, slavery and civil rights, Latin America or Victorian literature.

In Year 3 you will complete a year-long dissertation research project on a topic of your choice, with one-to-one supervision. You can choose from a range of research-led option modules, including European fascism, the French Revolution, America in the 20th-century world, the history of genocide, and British culture and politics. We will help prepare you for the workplace through a History Worklink placement module and Capstone: an e-journal module.
