After people, information Ð about performance, products, services, customers, suppliers and competitors Ð is one of the most valuable assets in any business or organisation. In an era of Big Data, where the volume, variety and complexity of information is increasing, so too is the need for individuals who can help businesses make the most of technology to store, share and analyse large quantities of data to reveal new insights which can improve performance.
The Management Information Systems programme offered by the Coventry UniversityÊaims to improve understanding of the impact of information systems on business processes and competitiveness in a global setting. Covering areas such as IT services, cloud computing, database management, analytics and mobile technologies, youÕll be introduced to Systems, Applications and Products (SAP), the worldÕs leading provider of enterprise business applications and solutions.
The past decade has witnessed an explosion in the sophistication of big data platforms, often using web-based intelligence applications, in a range of diverse business situations Ð from the remarketing techniques incorporated into online advertising to personalised medicine practices being used to inform patient treatment.
As the complexity of information systems increases, the skills required by those managing them are becoming highly specialised, yet at the same time more broad-based. Information systems managers not only need to have advanced technical knowledge, but also critical management skills to analyse business needs, solve problems and ensure that the people, processes and practices within a business operate seamlessly.
