In Year 1 of theÊPhysics with a Year Abroad programmeÊ at The University of Edinburgh, teaching is based in the Central Area and thereafter at the University's King's Buildings campus. During your first three years you will use the undergraduate laboratories and the University's libraries and computer facilities. From Year 2 you will also have access to the Computational Physics Laboratory.
In Year 4 (and 5) you will typically complete a placement within a research group, where you will be able to access the University's world-class research equipment and facilities.
Study abroad
You will spend a year abroad at a partner institution during the Senior Honours (fourth) year of your programme.

MPhys Physics programme provides a basis for a career in any numerate discipline. In particular, our graduates are highly sought after for jobs in computing, the manufacturing industry, finance, accountancy, teaching and the public sector.
Graduates with a first or a good upper second class degree have a chance of obtaining a postgraduate studentship for a PhD, with the possibility of a career in research or the support of research. The PhD is usually followed by one or more postdoctoral fellowships. These are fully paid professional jobs, lasting for one to three years, and in many cases are taken up abroad. Normally, a permanent job is sought after such a fellowship.
