• They are highly fastidious organisms that do not grow on standard microbiology plates and there is no NHS provision of testing for these organisms in Wales. Rapid diagnosis methods today are expensive (£130 per sample), only available through the central reference laboratory at Public Health England (adding significant delay in reporting time), and requires the use of equipment that is not available in non-specialist NHS clinical microbiology laboratories. The MYCO WELL D-ONE test allows separate detection of Mycoplasma hominis and Ureaplasma parvum/Ureaplasma urealyticum, in addition to concurrent antimicrobial susceptibility testing (not available at all in the NHS) species-specifically tailored to the most effective therapeutics, in just 18-24 hours without additional equipment or specialist training.
  • The MYCO WELL D-ONE system is composed of a polypropylene plate containing 32 wells for better viewing with a colorimetric read-out that detects unique by-products of the growth of these particular bacteria. The specially formulated selective medium blocks the growth of other bacteria, while accelerating the growth of Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma in separate wells of the plate. All consumables are included with the kit, so that only the use of a routine incubator is required. The plate also contains positive and negative growth controls to ensure assay failure does not result in reporting of false results.
