The nitriding of electrical steels promotes the development of the steelÕs magnetic properties but the present process, which utilises ammonia decomposition, is relatively inefficient and inconsistent.
  • The aim of the project is to study the rates of nitriding of electrical steel surfaces, develop an understanding of the mechanism of ammonia decomposition and nitrogen diffusion and identify the factors that control nitriding efficiency.
