This combination of qualifications will significantly boost your employability as a journalist. Our students achieved a 100% pass rate for NCTJ Sports Journalism in 2015 Ð 82% achieved the gold standard.

You will develop the core skills of sports journalism including writing previews, features, sports news stories and match reports. You can increase your practical experience by taking on reporting, editing and/or managerial roles on SportsByte Ð our student-run website covering sport across Sunderland.

In the final year, you will produce your own sports magazine, newspaper or series of in-depth articles, plus go on an industry placement.

All our teaching staff have worked as senior journalists. Teaching is enhanced by our departmentÕs cutting-edge research, and has been ranked 'world leading' by the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF).

Facilities at our Media Centre are excellent and 9 out of 10 of our journalism students have been able to access specialised equipment when they needed to, according to the National Student Survey 2015.

Right from the start, youÕll notice SunderlandÕs supportive atmosphere. We make sure that itÕs easy to receive advice from tutors and there are daily Ôdrop inÕ sessions staffed by a rota of professional journalists.
