Germanists working here are part of a stimulating research culture within the Department of Modern Languages, and also benefit from special links to the DAAD-supported multidisciplinary Institute for German Studies. Between us we are able to offer an exceptionally wide range of expertise, and hence supervision opportunities, ranging from the medieval period to the present day, and from traditional literary analysis to cutting-edge interdisciplinary approaches.

You can study German Studies fromÊUniversity of Birmingham on campus or by distance learning. Please note that if you are studying with us by distance learning, the programme includes a fully-funded annual visit to campus for each full year of your programme (every two years for part-time students).
