Remarks :
When applying to colleges, I considered MG College and SNVHSS College in Thiruvananthapuram for their Sociology programs. Despite MG College being nearer, I ultimately chose KNM Arts and Science College in Kanjiramkulam due to its superior Sociology curriculum and appealing academic environment, even though it meant a longer commute.The admission process at KNM Arts and Science College involved the allotment system. I received confirmation from KNM Arts and Science College after the first allotment and had to finalize my admission as I did not get offers from MG College or SNVHSS College. The admission process at KNM Arts and Science College is simple and does not require an entrance exam. Instead, it depends on index marks from previous academic performance, with eligibility requiring a percentage above 85%. This requirement matched my academic record, making me eligible for the program.the admission process was efficient, with seat allocation based on academic merit
Course Curriculum Overview :
The curriculum significantly influenced my decision to choose this course due to its comprehensive coverage of essential topics and its alignment with industry standards. This focus ensures that I am well-prepared for real-world applications and future academic pursuits. The course effectively integrates theoretical knowledge with practical skills, which enhances my readiness for professional challenges. However, there are areas where improvements could be made. For instance, incorporating more case studies and hands-on projects would further bridge the gap between theory and practice. Additionally, diversifying teaching methods to include more interactive sessions and real-time problem-solving could enhance engagement and understanding. Exams are conducted at regular intervals, which helps maintain a steady pace of learning.The frequency and timing of these exams are well-balanced, though the difficulty level tends to increase with each semester.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
As a beneficiary of the E-Grants scholarship, I am exempt from both the examination and tuition fees, which total ?1,510. This amount includes ?1,050 for tuition and ?460 for special fees. This financial aid is particularly beneficial for me, for an SC/ST student, as it reduces the fees compared to other categories. There are several other scholarships that can further support education. The Higher Education Scholarship offers up to ?1,54,000 over five years, and the Central Sector Scholarship provides ?1,000 per month. The Suvarna Jubilee Merit Scholarship grants ?10,000 per annum, while the C.H. Muhammed Koya Muslim Girls Scholarship awards ?5,000 per annum. Other notable scholarships include the Post-Metric Scholarship, which can provide up to ?2 lakhs, and the Fisheries Scholarships, offering ?950. The Snehapoorvam Scholarship provides ?10,000 per year, and the Hindi Scholarship gives ?500 per month.
Campus Life :
Our institution provides a comprehensive and enriching experience through a variety of annual festivals and technical events, including Arts Day, Freshers' Day, Holi, Onam, and Christmas, each fostering creativity, community, and cultural appreciation. The library supports academic growth with a broad collection of texts across disciplines, renowned authors, and key sociology resources. Classrooms are equipped with advanced technology such as projectors and smart boards, complemented by spacious seating for an optimal learning environment. Extracurriculars include the NSS program, diverse sports activities, and student-run clubs like the Environment, English, Arts, Economics, and Sports Clubs, all contributing to a vibrant campus life and holistic student development.
Faculty :
The faculty-to-student ratio at my college is favorable, with six tutors for my class of 58 students,meningful interactions and personalized attention.The faculty members are generally approachable and maintain a positive relationship with students.Among them,I particularly appreciate Krishna Ma’am my 1st year classtutor, for her exceptional friendliness, helpfulness, passion for teaching, and understanding nature. She stands out as one of the best faculty members due to her ability to connect with students and effectively support their learning. I hold all my tutors in high regard, and there are no faculty members whom I find less favorable.The academic structure includes six semester-wise exams, with the difficulty increasing progressively. While the first semester exams were easier, subsequent exams proven to be more challenging. Typically students may fail one to three papers, reflecting the rigorous nature of the assessments.The course curriculum is very relavant
