The admission process for the BCA programme at LPU distance education is pretty straightforward. The eligibility criteria were simple: a minimum of 60% in 10+2, regardless of stream or subjects. I contacted an LPU DE counselor, who provided me with the admission form. After filling it out, and paying the admission fees, Next i uploaded scanned copies of my 10+2 mark sheets, Adhaar card and signature. There was also a section for employment details which i skipped since i wasn't working. After submitting everything, I paid my fees for the semester then the admission process was done. The only thing left was Biometric verification which compulsory and must be done at the LPU campus. Exams are held twice a year( 2 semesters per year). The first set of exams take place in between dec and january and the second set of exams takes place in between june and july. In terms of difficulty I would rate the exams around 7-8/10. They are challenging enough to test our knowledge of the material.
I chose to pursue a BCA with specialisation in web development because the curriculum is highly practical and directly alligned with skills needed in the real world. The cource content covers essential areas like database management, web programming and other aspects of web development. The practical approach is one of the reasons that i decided to enroll. However, One area where curriculum that needs improvement is the nature of assignments. Currently, most assignments revolve around answering theoretical questions. I believe it would be far more beneficial if the assignments were project based, they will challenge us to think critically and creatively, preparing us for real world scenarios. As for the exams, they are held twice a year ( 2 semesters a year). First in Dec- Jan and second in June- July. I would rate the difficulty of exams around 7-8/10, they are challenging enough to test our understanding of the material but the grading tends to be slightly lenient.
There are so many companies that offer an internship or a job in LPU. Even for us distance students there are a lots of opportunities. Some of the companies are Springworks, Qlikmatrix, Chetu.inc, Us tech Solution inc etc. They all offer stipend or salaries upto 4 to 11 lpa. Some of these held their interviews virtual and some of these companies held their interviews on the campus. I recently joined an internship so i havent done much as of now.
Campus placements are done in last semesters but even before that we get lots of opportunities for internships and jobs, various job and interships offers are being posted in our portals, we can simply apply for it, give interview and then after that it depends on our interview. My plans after degree is to get masters degree, I'm not taking placement here but till then i'm going to do a few internships for experience and real world knowledge. . I recently got a 4 month internship from an IT company. That internship offer was given in my University portal by my university. This internship doesnt pay very good but it allows me to learn things about my tech industry by doing hands on projects.
Fee structure In LPU distance mode is divided in three parts, semester, yearly or all in once. Most students pay semester wise including me. Semester- wise: We pay 13,500 rupees per semester, split into a 12,000 programme fee and a 1,500 exam fee, twice a year. For example, I recently paid 13,500 for my 3rd semester. This totals 27,000 annually. Yearly - Wise = One of my friends pay yearly wise, in this the programme fee is 23,000 and the exam fee is 3,000, making it 26,000 in total. This is slightly cheaper than semester wise payment. As I'm a distance mode student, I don't have to pay for labs or development fees etc. All I've to pay is my programme and exam fee. Tuition fee is included in it. Scholarships: Scholarships in LPU's distance mode are rare as fees is already lower compared to regular cources. However, they do offer scholarships for students who excel in sports or are physically challenged.
That I can not give as I'm a distance student, where mostly our college life is online. But we get Opportunities to participate in sports and cultural events too if we want. LPU's infrastructure is magnificient, we all know that. It's so big that you might get lost if are a new there.
In distance mode at LPU, we receive online classes approximately a month before our semester exams. While the number of lectures provided are limited, their focus is on delivering high quality education to us. The faculty members are highly qualified. Professors provide us with notes and ppts, they encourage student participation by asking them questions in live classes. This interactive approach keeps us engaged in online setting as we all know online classes a lil boring lol. Overall, the quantity of lectures is less that i dont like but professors and faculty members ensure that we recieve quality education that is both comprehensive and engaging.
Curriculum is essential to guide teachers in what to teach, how much depth of knowledge is needed for that grade, and a a timeline to follow so the year will be completed. Curriculum needs to focus on what you can do with information rather than the information itself. I wouldn’t eliminate content, without background we cannot form good, rational, and educated conclusions. We are still giving timed tests in math facts! I know that’s traditional, but it just isn’t as important. My era had no calculators and we needed to be proficient at paper and pencil solutions, but now, perfect calculations are available to everyone.
