The hostels of Amity University Kolkata are pathetic with no good facilities that might improve the standards of living. The fees are as high as 90k every year, which does not even include food expenses. The food served here is only veg with no non-veg cuisine.

The warden too is very uncooperative and lacks empathy. The rules here are followed strictly and any carelessness on the part of students is taken care of with great discipline. Students are not allowed to eat chicken or even use kettles.

On weekends, students can go out of the campus only for an hour or so. A day's leave requires permission from various concerned persons and is a tedious process. The rules are even more strict for girls who have to return at 5 pm. There are hundreds of formalities after which you will be allowed to go. I would recommend you rent a flat if you want to make your stay a bit flexible and experience the freedom of college life.

Amity University, Kolkata hostels are well-equipped and offers the basic amenities to the students. The hostel facilities are good compared to the other private colleges in the state. The hostel fees are around 1 lakh per year excluding the mess and security fees.

Hostel rules are strict. If you want freedom, choose ranted accommodation outside of college. There are rented flats available closer to the campus.

You will most probably not have a great hostel life at Amity University Kolkata. In my friend’s experience, it is not a humane experience staying at the Amity hostels at all.

  • Firstly, it is very expensive for a hostel. My friend had to pay around INR 90,000 every year. This fee does not include any additional food expenses.
  • Another downside to this is the fact that the canteen will not offer any non-vegetarian food items. So, if you are an avid meat eater or seafood lover, your options will only be limited to vegetarian food.
  • Coming to the hostel warden, she is not a nice individual either. In an absurd instance, one time, she caught a friend of mine using a kettle and took it away. She did not return it until we had left the hostel.
  • Basically, it is a tight run ship here. If you go against the rules, you will have to bear the brunt.
  • When it comes to going out, you are allowed to leave only for an hour on weekdays. If you want to leave for an entire day, you will have to take permission from a million other people.
  • The situation is slightly different for weekends where you can stay out the whole day but you have to be back by 5 pm sharp. However, this is not the case with the boys. In my opinion, this is quite sexist.

In case you want to stay out beyond the designated time, you will have to email your parents, call them, show their phone numbers to the warden, fill up an outpass, and only then you can go. Even then, you will be put through a question-answer session where they can ask absurd questions which could be a breach of privacy.

My advice to you would be to think twice before planning on staying at the hostel here. Your life will be miserable.
