There were various drawbacks at SOE CUSAT. My brother has done his engineering from the institute. He has often told me abou the problems students faced there. 

• The problem of drug abuse and ragging has decreased significantly as suitable precautionary measures were taken by the authorities and the student bodies.
• Multiple sessions were conducted on drug abuse by various members of the police department and other drug enforcement agencies.
• Ragging has been quite persistent over the years but it is not to an extent that one has to be concerned. It is just done to break the ice.
• When we talk about political activities, several problems occurred last year about the student community and there were multiple strikes across Kerala that affected every college in some or the another way. 
• Some strikes took place as well and a week’s leave was granted in the beginning due to some problems. 

Even after all of this, studies did not get affected and the professors were able to complete the syllabus in the stipulated time.
