Although both JIPMER and AIIMS are elite medical colleges in India, I believe AIIMS is slightly better than JIPMER. Here are some common differences that can be pointed out

  • JIPMER has a higher intake than AIIMS so the student-teacher ratio is also higher. This further results in a higher student-patient ratio when one patient is examined for a class.
  • AIIMS has a bigger hospital, more patient flow, and better equipment thereby enhancing the overall learning experience. In AIIMS students are left to study on their own and academics aren’t forced upon them while in JIPMER the teachers teach a lot of theory and practice.
  • AIIMS refers most general and simple cases to other hospitals so you won’t be able to see a variety of cases while in JIPMER, you see all types of cases.
  • AIIMS has better research facilities and funding so if you are willing to do research projects, AIIMS is better for you.
  • JIPMER offers extensive internships that teach a lot and provide hands-on experience and clinical practice. AIIMS clinical testing and internships aren’t that good.
  • Both JIPMER and AIIMS have a strong alumni network and reservations for post-graduation courses that give you ample opportunities for courses and jobs after finishing your studies.
  • Delhi being a metropolitan city has better recreational activities while Pondicherry is the best place if you want a peaceful and calm environment.
  • Pulse by AIIMS is the largest intercollegiate medical festival in the country while Spandan by JIPMER is probably the second largest. Pulse definitely has better cultural activities while Spandan definitely has better sporting ones.
  • AIIMS has better post-graduation and super specialty courses.

Overall, both are excellent institutes and if you even have a choice between AIIMS and JIPMER, then go for AIIMS.

Among these AIIMS Delhi is better. It has a large hospital, and more patient flow, so you will get better learning opportunities. AIIMS also has a better infrastructure and offers better resources for learning. It has better research facilities and funding as well. If you are interested in research AIIMS will be the better choice. Watch this short video to understand why

JIPMER has a huge batch size. So, students don’t get the required attention from the faculty. Whereas, AIIMS has a concise batch size and a better student-teacher ratio.‘Pulse’ the medical festival of AIIMS Delhi is the largest in the country.

AIIMS Delhi is better than JIPMER. It is consistently ranked among the top medical institutes in the country. NIRF 2021 has ranked the institute 1st for Medical. It is also affordable since AIIMS Delhi fees for MBBS are only INR 7,640.

Other branches of AIIMS like Bhopal, Bhubaneswar are established recently and have limited infrastructural and hospital facilities. JIPMER, Pondicherry will be better compared to these branches.

Your preference order should be AIIMS Delhi>JIPMER, Pondicherry>Other AIIMS>JIPMER, Karaikal.

I have friends from both AIIMS and JIPMER, and here is what they had to say about the institutes.

  • JIPMER is renowned to enroll more students every year, leading to making the student-teacher ratio quite higher. This naturally contributes to the student-patient ratio as well. While, on the other hand, AIIMS has a really gigantic hospital compared to the former with more patients and better equipment. The faculty of AIIMS is equally good, just like JIPMER.
  • Now, both the institutes serve as major hospitals in their region of location. However, AIIMS mostly refers simple cases to other hospitals so you will not see many different cases during your stay at the institute. But, to add, AIIMS has better research facilities and a great amount of funding, if you choose to pursue research work.
  • The internships at JIPMER are quite vivid and can help students obtain hands-on experience with clinical practice. The experience you acquire at AIIMS is not as good as what is in JIPMER.
  • Both the institutes have a defined alumni network, alongside reservations for postgraduate courses. Having said that, because Delhi is a metropolitan city, it provides numerous recreational activities. Pondicherry is also a great location considering the pleasant weather.
Now, in terms of fests, Pulse is the largest intercollegiate medical festival in the nation, with Spandan snatching the second position.

Both the institutes are equally good, but if you have to go for one, AIIMS should be your first pick among the two.
