What should I choose, VJTI for Computer Science or BITS Goa for Chemical?
Posted On - Aug 2, 2021My friend also faced the dilemma of choosing between VJTI and BITS Goa. He ended up choosing VJTI because of the following reasons.
- VJTI offers a renowned CS curriculum with a strong focus on practical learning.
- BITS Goa may have a higher average salary during placement, but placements for CS at VJTI are also pretty solid. A total of 401 BTech students have been placed till now in 2024. The highest package was secured by a BTech Computer Science student which stood at INR 57 LPA with the average package being INR 20 LPA.
- VJTI has strong industry connections and easily offers students research and internship opportunities in top firms.
- BITS Goa also offer most of such programs in dual degree format which may be uncomfortable for some students.
- Mumbai being a tech hub can also be beneficial as VJTI CS students are to an ecosystem of networking opportunities and jobs.
You should choose BITS Goa Chemical. You will get better placement and exposure. BITS Goa placements 2021 had an average CTC of INR 9.05 LPA. While the highest CTC stood around INR 16 LPA.
You can also opt for the dual degree program at BITS, this will give you exposure to various branches of Engineering, during the first year. If you score a good GPA in your first year, you will be able to take the engineering branch of your interest.
Some of my friends are studying at both campuses, and all of them agree that opting for M.Sc in either Maths or Physics in BITS Goa can prove to be a better option. There are some reasons behind choosing this, some of them are as follows:
- Following the first year, you will unarguably secure a second B.E. degree.
- In case your CGPA is higher than 7.6, then you will secure a position in CS, as a second branch. It can be a lot easier if only you regularly attend your classes.
- On the other hand, EEE or ECE also requires hard work.
- It is popularly known that CSE in BITS Goa is one of the best in India. Besides, the coding culture usually followed at BITS Goa is both influential and meaningful.
- If you are still willing to pursue an MBA, you definitely can. But having this as another backup plan is slightly a better idea.
- The seasonal placement drive at BITS Goa is several steps ahead.
- The alumni of BITS Pilani support fresh graduates and helps them achieve a recommendation letter for an interview at various top firms.
- BITS Pilani mostly tops the list in establishing entrepreneurship skills in students.
- In addition to that, the start-up culture usually witnessed at the institute is commendable.
- RedBus, Exotel, and Yahoo are examples of the same, having leading BITS alumni as co-founders.

However, if you are not interested in the chemical branch, it is suggested that you take a dual degree at any campus of BITS for M.Sc. During the first year, you will be exposed to several branches of engineering, and after you have scored a reasonable CGPA, only then can you take the preferable course you want.
