- IIT Madras has a beautiful campus located in Chennai, it is spread across 25 hectares and is nestled between the Raj Bhavan campus and Guindy National Park.
- The campus offers a serene atmosphere and lush greenery with iconic fractures like the Gajendra Circle and Saraswathi Auditorium.
- The river Adyar flows alongside the campus of IIT Madras which enhances its natural charm.
My sister was a student at IIT Madras and was all-praise for the infrastructure and campus. Another cousin studies in IIT Bombay so I can give you a relative comparison.
- Environment : IIT Madras is a better place for nature lovers as it’s located in the heart of the forest. The institute is surrounded by lush greenery and is lined with old trees and even has a lake. It’s home to many deer and monkeys.
- Wildlife: You will be amazed by the beauty of the deer roaming around and the monkeys are a good source of entertainment.
- Gender Ratio: IIT Bombay has a better Female: Male ratio so students get one-to-one attention. IIT Madras has a low girls population.
- Infrastructure : IIT Madras has an old infrastructure with an open theater in the IIT Madras. Students have many options to make their leisure fun with many sports facilities like cricket, volleyball, football, gym, and swimming pool. An athletic ground has been recently constructed for jogging, running, and sprinting.
So make a choice based on your preferences!
IIT Madras has a beautiful campus. If you are an animal lover, you will love it. Blackbuck runs around the campus like stray dogs. Monkeys can enter your hostel rooms anytime, and rob you. It’s also pretty normal to see Hyenas roaming around the campus at night.
IIT Madras campus used to be a part of Guindy National Park. Different departments are literally scattered around the jungle. The campus has many overhead tanks. You can sneak out at night with your friends and watch Chennai city from the top of these tanks (though it is against the rules).
Elliot beach is only 4 km away from the campus. You can take your bicycle out to watch the beautiful sunrise from the Bay of Bengal.
IIT Madras has a beautiful campus. It is located inside a forest. The forest is quite green and dense at some points. You will find old trees growing there. There is also a lake inside the campus. You will see deers and monkeys roaming around the campus. You will get to see a lot of different birds too. You can even see hyenas on campus at night.
IIT Bombay is somewhat crowded in comparison. It has a lake with a boathouse where you can go and spend time with your friends.
A few of my friends graduated from both IIT Madras and IIT Bombay. Here are some points that might help you choose the better institute. This question is very subjective and the answer to this depends on your preferences.
Advantages of IIT Bombay –
- IIT Bombay is in Mumbai, the most happening city in India. Hence the scope of industrial visits, seminars will be frequent and by top companies.
- The top rankers prefer IIT Bombay due to its reputation and performance.
- Placement opportunity is marginally better as most corporates are having their Head Offices in Mumbai.
Advantages of IIT Madras –
- The top IIT in South India is the choice of any South Indian.
- The culture of preferring academics over jobs. Better candidates prefer to go for higher studies.
- The campus is beautiful and has a green and clean environment. If you are a nature lover you will love the environment at the IIT Madras campus.
