The Electrical branch at NIT Raipur is highly reputed in India. Here is a list of its pros and cons that will help you understand the credibility of the branch.
Pros
- The branch has an excellent faculty profile who are highly experienced and learned. Their Letter of Recommendation can shape your career for the better given that you have good grades and projects.
- The department won’t detain you for skipping classes and I can prepare for GATE/CAT whenever you have free time.
- NIT Raipur conducts several competitions like VIGYAAN, the science exhibition, robotics workshops, etc. that give students knowledge and interest in the field of robotics.
- The college provides pretty decent internship opportunities to students in companies like Tata Steel, Vedanta, TVS, Jindal, BARC, etc
- Last year, the branch received 62 offers in all and the students eligible for placements were 68.
Cons
- The learning environment is not well-facilitated.
- The lab sessions are monotonous and the equipment is obsolete
- The syllabus is outdated and needs revision and upgradation.
- Core jobs are rare so most of the students are placed in software companies.
- The infrastructure is not up to the mark which affects the learning experience.
- The gender ratio is poor, around 1:5 for girls: and boys.
- The exposure offered is limited and very few industrial visits are made.
Ultimately, it depends on your talents and interests if this branch is good for you or not!
In comparison to the other options, B.Tech electrical at NIT Raipur is the best. One of my friends studied here. According to him, they have a well maintained electrical department.

- Because of the good course structure, you can do well in the GATE exam, which is a gateway to higher education.
- NIT Raipur also organizes various competitions, science exhibitions, robotics workshops, etc. This encourages students to participate and stay involved with it.
- They offer vocational training and internship opportunities.
- They may not have a good infrastructure but have an optimistic approach when it comes to academics.
- NIT Raipur might not be good for students enthusiastic about research studies.
