Which is better in terms of placements for an MTech in computer science, IIT Roorkee or NIT Surathkal?
Posted On - Jul 6, 2021I was in the same position as you last year. I too had the same options for my Bachelor and I chose IIT Roorkee due to the following reasons:-
- The IIT brand that gets attached to you is an asset that shall forever remain worthy.
- Older IITs like Roorkee boast a longer legacy and are highly esteemed for imparting quality Engineering education.
- IIT Roorkee is ranked 5th in the NIRF ranking while NIT Surathkal is ranked 12th.
- IIT Roorkee is better both in terms of the number of companies visiting and the average package.
- IIT Roorkee M.Tech CSE has an Average Package of 15 LPA while NIT Surathkal M.Tech CSE is at 12.64 LPA.
Both IIT Roorkee and NIT Surathkal are highly reputed institutes, and both have good placement records for their MTech in computer science programs. However, based on the available data, IIT Roorkee has a slight edge over NIT Surathkal in terms of average placement packages.
In the most recent placement season, IIT Roorkee had an average placement package of around Rs. 16 LPA for its MTech in the computer science program, with companies like Amazon, Goldman Sachs, and Microsoft visiting the campus for recruitment. On the other hand, NIT Surathkal had an average placement package of around Rs. 13 LPA, with companies like Microsoft, Intel, and Deloitte visiting the campus for recruitment.
Both IIT Roorkee and NIT Surathkal are excellent choices for an MTech in computer science, and students can expect good placement opportunities from both institutes. However, based on the available data, IIT Roorkee seems to have a slightly better placement record for this program.
I have friends from both IIT Roorkee and NIT Surathkal. Based on the reviews I got from them about M.Tech in Computer Science, I will say IIT Roorkee is a better option in terms of placements.
Computer Science is one of the few branches at IIT Roorkee that offer excellent placement to MTech students. The number of companies visiting IIT Roorkee campus is also comparably more than that of NIT Surathkal.
