December 03, 2020: As per the Supreme Court's statement released, Super-Speciality Course Medical Counselling will be held without reservation for in-service doctors for the academic session 2020-2021 admission.
On November 27, 2020, the bench justice L. Nageswar Rao said, "As the admission process is at the final stages, we cannot permit reservation for in-service doctors for this year".
Tamil Nadu Government representer, C.S. Vaidyanathan stated that a total of 369 seats are available for the admission 2020-2021 session in Super Speciality Medical Colleges. Out of which 70% of qualified doctors have already left the state.
He further added, “At least, in-service doctors would serve in Tamil Nadu till their retirement”. The court decision would be heard in detail in February 2021, however, the admission process for super specialty courses will begin this year without an in-service seat reservation.
Referring to the admission, Tamil Nadu Supreme Court stated that the admission process for super specialty courses has already begun in the states from August 03, 2020. Candidates were made aware that no seat reservation will be provided for admission.
The Supreme Court further said, "The government order reserving 50% seats for in-service doctors would be detrimental to the interests of the meritorious doctors".

For Kerala, the state government was unable to commence the Kerala Medical Officers Admission 2020-2021 as per Service Quota Act 2008 for candidates seeking admission in PG courses.
Under the Service Quota Act 2008, the state government was bound to provide a reservation of 40% for in-service courses, for which no actions were taken by the government.
Earlier, on November 07, 2020, the bench justice released an order, according to which 50% in service quota will be reserved for super-specialty medical courses in the state.
NEET qualified doctors later opposed the government order for quota reservation, on which Madras High court did not intervene.
