On Saturday, December 5, 2020, Punjab Chief Minister congratulated Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) for receiving the second rank awarded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for 2019. 

In his congratulatory statement, CM Captain Amarinder Singh, applauded Punjab Agricultural University for their consistent effort, hard work, commitment and dedication which made them reach that feat.

As per the official release, the CM specially mentioned the contribution of PAU Vice-Chancellor, Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon for this achievement. The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude towards PAU for their constant contribution in improving the rankings of the university.

Previously, in 2016, Punjab Agricultural University was in the third position, however, it slipped to 4th rank in 2017, 7th as per 2018 rankings, and completely rebounded to the second position in 2019.

As per Captain, this journey has been possible for the university only by breakthrough achievements for qualitative improvement of food crops, fruits and vegetables, only through a process of quantitative research and development records. 

Recently in 2018, PAU also received the Sardar Patel Institution award from ICAR for its overall achievements in research and development in agriculture in the past five years from 2012-2017.

Backed by previous historic records of helming the Green Revolution in the 1960s, PAU has been one of the forerunners of research achievements in the field of agriculture. As a fact, Punjab CM has assured of supporting to intensify their research studies in growing improved varieties of crops.

He has also assured of extending his support towards efforts to diversify crops by means of allied farming. This will hell to intensify income of farmers as they have been through grave issues pertaining to standing MSPs and near diminished returns from their produce. 

The CM expressed his deepest belief in PAU to play a pivotal role in encouraging farmers within the state to leverage extension services and adopt a crop diversification approach.
