New Delhi: National Institute of Technology (NIT), Patna has rolled out a five year M.Tech programme which will include a four-year B.Tech degree course for the academic session 2022-23 commencing from July 2022.


NIT Patna will award both M.Tech and B.Tech degrees after the completion of five years. NIT is the first institute in Bihar to launch a 5-year M.Tech programme consisting of a 4-year B.Tech degree. 

The institute has planned to implement this system from the academic session commencing from July 2022. With the launch of this degree course, NIT Patna will become the first institute in Bihar state to introduce and offer a dual degree programme. 

With the implementation of the 5-year M.Tech programme, the students will get BTech and MTech degrees of six years in five years only, which will save one year for them. Candidates's admission to the Integrated programme will be based on the rank of IIT Main. 

Speaking about the programme, Professor Pradeep Kumar Jain, Director, NIT Patna, informed that the institute has planned to start a five year dual degree course in various seven courses from the academic session 2022-23. 

He said that similar courses are being offered at many IITs and NITs in the country. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Patna) has also decided to take the initiative to start such a dual degree course.

NIT Patna Integrated Course: Enrollment Based on JEE Main Ranking

Prof. PK Jain said that in all the eight courses in the institute, a total of 143 seats will be enrolled in the five-year integrated course. After successful completion of a four-year B.Tech course, the degree of M.Tech will be given in one year, which will simultaneously benefit the students in employability and degree. 

He concluded by saying that the enrollment for these integrated courses will be based on the entrance scores of JEE Main exam.
