Directorate General of Health Sciences (DGHS) has notified five medical colleges across India to reserve one undergraduate course seat under the ‘Children of COVID-19 Warriors (deceased)’ category for the academic session 2020-2021.

According to DGHS official notification, the five institutes allotting special seats are MGIMS (Wardha), Lady Hardinge Medical College (New Delhi), NSCB Medical College (Jabalpur), JLN Medical College (Ajmer), and Government Medical College (Haldwani).

Candidates who have cleared National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2020, held in September, will be eligible to get admission under ‘Children of COVID-19 Warriors (deceased)’ category.

NEET UG Children of COVID-19 Warriors Admission 2020: Participating Colleges

Candidates who seek admission to the medical programs offered at selected five medical colleges can apply through their respective Directorate of Health Services (DHS) or Directorate of Medical Education (DME) of their domicile states.

Earlier, in November, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. Harsh Vardhan had announced the Centre’s decision to reserve five medical seats for children of COVID-19 warriors who died in the line of work.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare defines COVID-19 warriors as public healthcare providers that include community health workers that remain in direct contact and care of COVID-19 patients. These warriors are at high risk of being impacted by the same.

Hence, a special quota has been created to aid the children of COVID-19 warriors who lost their lives while working during COVID-19 or who have passed away fighting coronavirus.

As per the official notification, Nominations or applications will be routed through the concerned state’s DHS or DME after scrutiny about the candidate’s eligibility. 

Subsequently, the concerned authorities will forward such applications to the Medical Council Committee (MCC) for allotment through NEET 2020 merit.
