New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India in its last hearing, has given permission to eleven DM, MCh and DNB Candidates to forego their allotted seats.
The doctors had also filed the case against the huge penalty being imposed by the universities for resigning their seats. The Supreme Court bench comprising of Justice BR Gavai and Manoj Mishra said that the decision regarding the penalty amount shall be made after the outcome of this case.
The Supreme Court has passed the interim order on February 17, 2023 based on the plea filed by the eleven doctors against their allocated sets through All India Quota Counselling for NEET Super-Speciality.
The counsel for petitioner students, Senior Advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan made tghe argument infront of the court that if these eleven students are being allowed to resign their seats now, these seats will be filled up late in the ongoing Mop-Up Rounds.
In addition to this, he also mentioned that according to the previous years trends, many mop-up rounds had been conducted to fill the vacant seats, yet, some seats have remained vacant.
In accordance to this argument, the Supreme Court has decided to grant permission to the students to resign their seat allotments. It has also mentioned that these eleven vacant seats, will be made available in the mop-up rounds of NEET SS Counselling.
