NEET SS 2021: As per the latest updates, the Delhi High Court on Thursday issued a notice to the Central Government regarding the plea filed by an overseas citizen of India. The plea has been filed challenging a provision in the notification relating to eligibility criteria for NEET-SS 2021.

Delhi High Court Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti have directed the Central Government and National Board of Examinations (NBE) in Medical Sciences to reply to the plea submitted by overseas citizens of India against the NEET SS 2021 Eligibility Criteria section.

The petition is filed against a provision in the notification relating to eligibility criteria for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)-SS 2021 and has been submitted through the advocate Shivendra Singh.

As per the petition, Dr. Snigdha Kamini, an OCI cardholder has challenged the mention of "such other tests' ' in para (4) (ii) (including the proviso) in the NEET SS 2021 Eligibility Criteria Notification released on March 04, 2021.

Referring to the petition filed, the petitioner said, "Until last year, OCIs were eligible to appear for the super-specialty entrance exams conducted by the respondent NBE".

"It is well-known that the path to becoming a specialist doctor is arduous and the petitioner cannot be expected to start from scratch. To deny even the eligibility to the Petitioner to write the 2021 National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Super Specialty (NEET-SS) examination is patently illegal”.

“India is in dire need of healthcare professionals as evident during the COVID pandemic crisis and by the extremely poor doctor-patient ratio. The impugned notification would only demotivate healthcare professionals from staying back in India," Dr. Snigdha Kamini further added.

The notification was released by the Central government regarding the NEET-SS 2021 Examination. Division Bench of Chief Justice DN Patel has listed the next hearing on the plea on September 23, 2021.
