October 19, 2020: IIT Bombay once again attracted the top JEE rank holders for Computer Science Program. As per the information released by IIT Delhi, top JEE rank holders have opted for the four-year Computer Science and Engineering program at IIT Bombay. 

Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) published the seat allotment list on October 18, 2020. In accordance with JoSAA first seat allotment list, the computer science program has received the maximum number of applications across top IITs of India. The candidates have to pay the fee and upload documents latest by October 19.

This year there are a total of 16,053 seats in 23 IITs, while in 2019, 13,583 seats were available. This increment in seats has raised the opportunity for admission to students' dream IIT institutes.

In order to accommodate females and 10% of economically weaker (EWS) category candidates, the IITs have also added supernumerary seats in different programs. 

Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) is also responsible for admission to Government Funded Technology Institutes (GFTIs) including the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), which makes the total seat intake capacity of 50,822. 

Organizing chairman of JEE Advance, Professor Sidhartha Pandey said, “All seats, except 128 seats across IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, have been allotted in the first round itself. These remaining 128 seats too will be allotted in the upcoming rounds and the aim is to ensure zero vacancies across institutes".

In order to complete the admission process of JoSAA before Diwali, the exam conducting authority has listed a six-seat allotment process in place of seven.

Referring to the admission process of JoSAA, Chairman Sidhartha Pandey added, “We have received quite a few queries from students confirming admission online and we are helping everyone possible". 

This is a consecutive third year when all the institutes will be keeping supernumerary seats for female candidates. IIT Bombay alone will be offering 156 seats under this category. Last year the count stood at 96. 

IIT Delhi declared the result for JEE Advanced Examination 2020 on October 5, 2020, for 1.50 Lakh candidates who appeared for the exam. The admission process of IITs is based on candidates’ Joint Entrance Examination-Advanced (JEE-Adv) scores. 

Out of the total candidates who appeared for JEE Advanced 2020, 43,204 were eligible for the admission process through their JoSAA score. 

To avoid vacancies of seats in IITs, the authorities decided to lower the qualifying scores for all interested and eligible candidates. The qualifying score for seeking admission in IIT for general category students is now reduced to 17.5% from last year’s 25%.

In comparison to the last year cutoff list for admission in IIT, the cutoff bar for Schedule Caste (SC) and Scheduled tribe (ST) candidates has reduced to 8.75% from last year’s 12.5%. 

For EWS and OBC-NCL categories candidates, last year’s qualifying score was 22.5%, while in 2020, the score is now cut down to 15.75%.
