HRD Ministry in consultation with CSAB has decided to relax the JEE Main 2020 Eligibility Criteria of Candidates for admission to NITs and CFIs. Only Pass Certificate required in Class 12th Board Exam 

Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) has decided to relax the eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2020 appearing candidates. According to the revised criteria the compulsion of scoring more than 75% in class 12th board or equivalent exams or being in top 20 percentile, has been ruled out. Thus all the candidates who secure the pass certificate are eligible for admission to NITs and CFIs The decision has been taken in wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic because of which CBSE and other State Board could not conduct exams for pending papers. 

The decision was taken on July 23, 2020, in a joint meeting held by MHRD and CSAB, The announcement was made by HRD Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal on his twitter handle. He stated that “JEE Main 2020 qualified candidates will now only need to obtain a passing certificate in class XII examination irrespective of the marks obtained”

According to the previous JEE Main Eligibility criteria, a candidate must either fall in top 20 percentile or atleast score a minimum 75% marks in aggregate in qualifying examination (Class 12th Board Exam) and 65% for SC and ST category students.

List of Qualifying Exams for JEE Main 2020

The basic eligibility for JEE Main 2020 exam is class 12 from a center or state-recognized board. There are a few other equivalent qualifying exams that can also be considered for eligibility in the JEE Main Exams

  1. The final examination of 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized Central/ State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi; etc. 
  2. Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defense Academy (NDA).  
  3. Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects. 
  4. Any Public School/ Board/ University examination in India or in any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). 
  5. Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination. 
  6. A diploma recognized by AICTE or a State board of technical education of at least a 3-year duration.
  7. General Certificate of Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level. 

The relaxation has brought some ease for the candidates who, otherwise would have been filtered out from getting admissions to NITs and Centrally Funded Institute.
