Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have decided to eliminate the 12th board performance criterion for admissions due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic & the education scenario in the country. The official confirmation has been released by IITs regarding the removal of criterion.
Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal made the official announcement on Thursday, stating the revised eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2021. During the interaction, the minister revealed that the 12th board criterion has been dropped for 2021 admissions and IIT should consider the JEE rank holders to just clear his/her board examination.
The proposal made by JIC has been achieved after the Joint Admission Board (JAB) permitted it. JAB is a committee that consists of members including IIT directors and the representatives of HRD ministers.
An official stated, “Every year, there are only a few candidates who get rejected admission due to less percentile in 12th board. So, waiving off the criterion for one year would not make much difference.”
According to the general eligibility, the students who would appear for the JEE Advanced entrance test must have obtained above 75% or in the top 10 toppers list in class 12th. The SC/ ST students must have acquired above 65% or in the top 20 toppers to seek admissions at IITs.

However, this eligibility criterion has been revised, and the candidates will be permitted for admission irrespective of Class 12th marks.
“The special eligibility criterion for JEE 2021 is for those eligible candidates who registered for JEE Advanced 2020 but could not sit in the exams," added Nishank. Although these students will need to register again for the 2021 exams and pay the prescribed fees.
Meanwhile, the CBSE examinations for Class X and XII will be conducted from May 4, 2021, to June 10, 2021, and the results would be declared by July 15, 2021. Following that, the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced will be conducted later.

Furthermore, IIT-Kharagpur will conduct the JEE Advanced 2021 in computer-based test mode on July 3, 2021, in English and Hindi languages, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank informed on Thursday.
The students appearing for JEE Advanced 2021 can use an app launched by the National Testing Agency to take mock tests for practise while preparing for the exams.
