New Delhi: In order to provide antenatal care and real-time medical support to pregnant women, researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, have developed the "SwasthGarbh" smartphone application.

The institution released a statement saying, "This is the first pregnancy App that enables instantaneous access to doctor's advise and is clinically endorsed as well as credible."

The smartphone app is free to use for both patients and doctors, and it is accessible through the Google Play Store.

More apps are used during pregnancy than in any other area of medicine. However, there is a paucity of clinician participation. In order to meet this need, Vatsla Dadhwal and Aparna Sharma from the AIIMS, Delhi, along with Sahil Sharma and Deepak Sharma from the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, IIT Roorkee, developed "SwasthGarbh," an interactive platform to promote prenatal care that is holistic in its outlook and patient-centered.

It helps expectant mothers, particularly those who live in remote areas, by assuring punctual antenatal care appointments, documenting every clinical test, and enhancing medication adherence. A study showcasing the advantages of the SwasthGarbh App was released in the prominent peer-reviewed

In a statement on the study, Deepak Sharma of the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering at IIT Roorkee said: "SwasthGarbh Mobile App would provide real-time medical support to all pregnant women and improve maternal-fetal health as increasing Neonatal Mortality Rate is an alarming worry. We can forward the Prime Minister's Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat mission with the help of this gift from IIT Roorkee to all women in India and the world.

Rama Chaudhry, Dean (Research), AIIMS New Delhi, emphasised the app's usefulness by saying: "SwasthGarbh App will be highly valuable for presenting potential answers to frequent difficulties in pregnancy. Our objective is to spread the SwasthGarbh App throughout every home in the nation and so save valuable maternal and foetal lives.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the value of telemedicine in healthcare, according to IIT Roorkee director KK Pant, who congratulated the researchers. With more than a billion users globally, smartphones have a huge potential to change the medical sciences and advance healthcare.
